Profile:
Mr. Whitis taught public schools in Texas for 26 years before joining the faculty at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.  During his 13 years at UMHB he taught applied lessons, brass pedagogy, instrumental conducting and secondary music education.While working on his masters degree, he was a trombone student of Dr. Neill Humfeld, one of the founding members of the International Trombone Association.

Prior to coming to UMHB he served as a band director in the public schools of Texas for 26 years.  His experiences range from working with students in grades 6 – 12.  Mr. Whitis performs with the Chisholm Brass Quintet in venues around Central Texas.

He continues to serve as an adjudicator, low brass teacher and clinician for bands across the state.

Mr. Whitis’ professional affiliations include International Trombone Association, Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Phi Mu Alpha, and Kappa Kappa Psi.

Mr. Whitis is a native of Belton, Texas and is married to Jessye Whitis, retired Associate Professor of Piano at UMHB.
